Homeopathy is a system of medicine that works in a holistic way.
As website manager, and a qualified Homeopath who is currently going through the menopause, I know the value of using homeopathy in the treatment of menopausal symptoms. I will give a brief outline of a selection of remedies that have helped some people. However I strongly suggest that you see a homeopath as there are dozens of potentially helpful remedies.
Lachesis
Lachesis is a remedy for people who are much better for any discharge, and conversely worse when a discharge stops. Many symptoms come on in someone who needs Lachesis at the cessation of periods.
Lachesis women are strong charismatic passionate characters, very talkative, full of ideas so may jump quickly from one subject to another. They are emotionally expressive, and feel better for this. They are sexual women and can get very jealous, and will let their loved ones know how they are feeling.
They can wake up from sleep with symptoms, they often develop symptoms on the left side, and it is a heart remedy. They can present with extreme hot flushes with palpitations, and frequent waking at night. They can not bear the heat, so menopause is a real challenge for them.
Sepia
A Sepia woman is exhausted, fed up with being a mother and a wife, she wants to escape. She has gone off sex, to the point of aversion. She can slip into apathy and depression.
Sepia women are very much better for exercise, and love to dance. However in menopause their hot flushes come on from the slightest exertion. To look at they are often of a slim build with narrow hips.
A Sepia state can occur with any hormonal change, such as pregnancy, birth, menopause. Before menopause they feel the cold, and can suffer with Reynard’s disease. It is a remedy that can present with prolapse, with a bearing down sensation. This can happen with the menopause, and can be associated with urinary incontinence.
Calc Carb
People who need Calc Carb tend to be overweight. They are cold, perspire profusely, tired, and anxious. Their anxiety is about little things, and they have a sense of insecurity. They tend to do things slowly, and can worry that other people are noticing how slow they are being. They are very sensitive, particularly to atrocities, which can incite their anxieties.
At the time of menopause they are likely to complain that their brain is not working properly, that they are not as self assured as previously, and are feeling far more anxious.
They can suffer very badly with hot flushes, which often move up their body and are accompanied by copious sweating.
It is a remedy that can come up with an underactive thyroid.
A word of warning to anyone who is using complementary therapies, use contraceptives. Many times I have seen someone who considers themselves at the menopause, re- start their periods, after a remedy. This is common, however if this happens and you are concerned, get it checked by your doctor - Jo Pitcairn, Web Site Manager.
