Features - Thousands of Women are having needless Hysterectomies

Thousands of women are having hysterectomies for complications such as endometriosis, heavy menstrual bleeding and fibroids. 60,000 to 70,000 are performed in Britain each year and although hysterectomies are essential for those people with cancer, critics are claiming that this procedure has become over-used for women who have 'female' problems.

Early menopause can be brought on by having a hysterctomy and it is therefore recommended that if a hysterectomy is suggested for non cancerous complications then you should go through all the options with your doctor before embarking on surgery.
